Netherlands Unveils €1.45 Billion Defense Investment Plan

The Netherlands announced plans to invest at least €1.45 billion in new defense equipment, including torpedo-killing torpedoes, tracked armored vehicles, and a new rifle. A letter to parliament outlined 17 projects aimed at strengthening NATO commitments and national deterrence capabilities. State Secretary of Defence Gijs Tuinman stressed the urgency of faster procurement with a rising defense budget projected to reach €22 billion by 2025. The ministry also revealed plans to enhance the Dutch F-35 fleet’s armament with more survivable tactical weapons between 2027 and 2032. Current F-35 munitions are seen as vulnerable due to limited range, low speed, and high radar visibility.
